This polished brass gorget features the royal “GR” crown cipher and was worn at the throat by officers as a sign of rank. Gorgets were a surviving remnant of medieval armour and remained part of an officer’s uniform into the Revolutionary and Napoleonic eras. A great finishing touch for a British redcoat impression, Napoleonic officer uniform, or other 18th- and early 19th-century military kit. Fun fact: Gorgets began as steel throat armor. By 1800 they had shrunk to this crescent badge, worn purely to show rank.
