"We Are Leaving!" Afghanistan War Vignette

Date: 09/29/17 Location: Classified Operation: Black Sky During the Afghanistan war, an 8 man squad was sent into the Afghanistan mountains in search of a 4 man team that went missing. The team was found dead in an Afghanistan compound. The squad radioed in saying "The team is dead, looks like some Tali's took them out" They left the compound and were ambushed by Taliban. This sudden ambush forced the squad to retreat to a hilltop. They held out there, one of the soldiers went into the house and climbed through a crater and onto the roof, where he would provide fire support. The others took cover around some sandbags. Mortars were shot at the hill but missed. The craters are from mortar strikes that hit the hill when the soldiers were heading to it. The squad radioed in for Evac. Back at a forward operation base, a UH-1Y with AH-1Z escorts were sent into the squad's position. The AH-1Z's gunned down the Taliban forces, causing the rest to retreat down the hill.
