Momonari Kabuto

The Momonari Kabuto (桃形兜), meaning “peach-shaped helmet,” was a distinctive style of Japanese samurai helmet that became popular during the Sengoku period (15th–16th centuries). Its rounded, high-domed shape was inspired by the form of a peach and was generally simpler and more practical than elaborate earlier kabuto designs.Momonari Kabuto were often made from iron plates, sometimes covered or decorated with lacquer, and could be fitted with a shikoro neck guard and various crests or ornaments. The design continued to be used into the Edo period, particularly among warriors who favored practical or historically inspired equipment.By the Bakumatsu period, traditional helmet styles such as the Momonari Kabuto could still be seen alongside increasingly modern military equipment. Its distinctive silhouette made it one of the recognizable forms of Japanese samurai armor.
